CitiTap Foundation Scholarship Cohort Welcomes 40 New Students

There is a particular kind of quiet in a room when a parent learns their child’s school fees are covered for the year. We witnessed it forty times this term. The CitiTap Foundation scholarship programme has welcomed its newest cohort: forty academically gifted students from low-income households across our host communities.

How the CitiTap Foundation Scholarship Works

The scholarship supports secondary and tertiary students who have the ability to succeed but lack the resources to continue. Support covers tuition, learning materials and, where boarding applies, a contribution to feeding. Selection is deliberately unglamorous: academic records, household means testing and a community reference — no essays about suffering, no publicity requirements attached to a child’s face.

Who Qualified This Cohort

  • Twenty-four secondary school students continuing into senior classes
  • Sixteen tertiary students across education, engineering, nursing and agricultural science
  • Roughly six in ten are young women — a reflection of applications, not a quota

Why Education Sits at the Centre of Our Work

UNESCO estimates Nigeria has around 20 million out-of-school children, among the highest figures in the world (UNESCO). A foundation cannot close that gap alone — but it can refuse to let talent in its own communities go unfunded. Education multiplies: one supported nurse or teacher serves hundreds.

Beyond Fees: Mentorship That Sticks

Each scholar is paired with a mentor from the CitiTap Group team — engineers, accountants, logisticians — who checks in each term. Half of what these students lack is money; the other half is someone who has walked the road ahead.

How You Can Get Involved

Partners can fund a named scholarship, sponsor learning materials, or volunteer as mentors. Every naira is accounted for in our programme reporting.

The CitiTap Foundation scholarship is our answer to a simple conviction: ability is evenly distributed, opportunity is not. If you would like to help balance that equation, partner with the Foundation today.
